Due to on-going negotiations between the US Government and the Chinese Government, we are expecting a 15% price increase on all products made in China from our suppliers and manufacturers immediately on March 1st. Last Fall, the Trump Administration announced a planned 25% increase overall on Chinese made products into the U.S. We experienced the first 10% increase of that 25% on October 1st. The remaining 15% was originally expected to go into effect January 1st, but was postponed due to progress in negotiations. As of right now, Friday 2/22, we have not heard of that postponement being changed so we are still expecting the 15% increase on any Chinese made goods shipped March 1st or after.
What does this mean?
Many products are made in China or have materials created or processed in China, so the effect on the flooring industry is far reaching. Most vinyl products- COREtec, Syncore X, Aqualok, to name a few are made in China. Several hardwood products including the popular Villa Bocelli lines, and most other Bella Cera woods are manufactured in China, so we expect an increase immediately March 1st. We encourage you to call us if you are serioulsy interested in getting a new floor soon, because we encourage you to order sooner rather than later so that you will be unaffected by this hearty increase in pricing. Most of you are making purchases when you buy flooring into the $1000’s of dollars, so 15% on an average order of $3500 takes that number up to $4025, so it is not insignificant.
We hope that the governments can come to terms that do not require this significant cost increase to the American consumer, but the volatility of the situation begs us to educate you on the risks of waiting to purchase.
