Yes. We have a retail store in Louisville, KY called RiverCity Flooring. We have been in business since 1997. Since we are a “display” dealer we are fully backed by manufacturers whose products we sell on our website. We added the “By RiverCity Flooring” to show our connection.
We have shippable samples of:
- In Stock Products
- US Floors
- Home Legends
- Eagle Creek
All other brands would need to be requested and may not be available. We may be able to help you find a location near you where you can go see a large sample in person.
We suggest 5-7% waste as standard. If you are a first time “Do-it-yourselfer” we may suggest increasing that to 7-10% to the nearest carton to give yourself some wiggle room in trial and error cuts. We also suggest increasing the waste factor if you have several angles that may not be standard. Getting your measurements close and ordering the right amount of waste is crucial. It is very expensive to return material if it is accepted at all, and it will likely cost more to ship just a few boxes.
When it comes to running a flooring site, there is very little overhead. Since we do not have the liability of installation, we do not have to pay for liability insurances and workers compensation like service businesses do. We also have been working with several manufacturers and distributors for years so we have the very best price on many of the products we sell online. We are always working with our manufacturer reps and distributor reps to make sure we can get you the best price delivered.
In a perfect world, because we always have the lowest price! We strive to have the best price, but sometimes we can’t beat another retailer. If they stock it and we don’t, there could be a difference in price. If they are closer in proximity to you it may be cheaper for them to ship it than for us. However, we always strive to be the most responsive, responsible, and educated dealers. If we don’t know the answer to a question, we will find out for you. We have been online since February of 2013, serving hundreds of customers all over the U.S. We have the best reviews of any company online and we are proud of that.
We accept all major credit cards:
- Visa
- MC
- American Express
- Discover
- check by mail
- ACH check by phone
An ACH is an e-check. You provide us the information on your check and we initiate a wire transfer through our bank with that information. What information is needed? Bank name, routing, account number, and signee name.
We completely understand. It is a legitimate practice that required underwriting from our bank to allow us to do this. We do not share your information and once we have entered it into the secure banking system, we eliminate that information from our database leaving only the last 4 of the account number to reference back to for example to say “Yes on your last order you paid with the account number ending in -1234”.
No. We enter your credit card information one time into the system and we never see anything but a verification code from the transaction again.
We charge 2% for Visa or MasterCard transactions, 3% for American Express or Discover. We charge you what we are charged by the credit card company.
Unfortunately, we cannot. We have worked out the very lowest margins on your order by eliminating all additional costs to show you the best deal. Paying with a check by phone is simple, easy, and safe, but we do understand if you prefer a credit card which is why we have left it is an option. It’s just one we have to charge for.
As you may have noticed, the cart feature on our site does not work. We want to speak with all of our customers directly. This is likely a large purchase that needs attention to detail that you just cannot find with a few clicks in a cart. Once you have received an estimate from us, if you are ready to move forward with the order you can either call us to give us your payment and shipping information over the phone, or email us you are ready and we can send you an invoice through email. You can pay online via cc, by phone via cc, mail a check to us or pay with a check by phone.
Usually once an order has been placed, it takes 2-3 days for processing. Processing includes placing the order with our warehouse or manufacturer, the warehouse pulling the material and preparing it for shipment, and setting up a shipment pick up time and Bill of Lading. You will be notified within 24 (business) hours of your order being shipped with the truck line information and tracking number. You can track the order along the way, but you will be called to schedule your delivery appointment by the truck line. We track your shipments along the way as well and make sure everything is moving smoothly to the best of our abilities.
Stock is fluid. We always do our best to know how much inventory and where it is before we take payment. We will always give you our best guess on delivery, but there are many variables. If something is on backorder you will be notified as soon as we are. We try to stick to 7-10 business days (Mondays thru Fridays) with all of our orders. However, some products are made to order, or must be moved from one location to another before we can ship to the customer. We try to let you know as much as we can because we know there is usually a timeline that comes with this type of project. Also, once it is in the freight company’s hands we have very little control. We track it along the way so if it seems to be stuck on its way we can call and figure out what is going on so we can keep it moving. Inclement weather and other conditions (pope or presidential visits for example) can keep the freight from moving as quickly as expected which is why we try to stress that ship time is an estimate and not a guarantee. Standard is 7-10 business days. If we stock it then it will likely be quicker to the Midwest, Southeast, and East Coast. If we do not stock it, oftentimes it could take a little longer if you are on the West Coast.
We quote everything as delivered to a residence with a liftgate truck and deliver appointment. When it’s a residential delivery, the truck line will call you ahead of time to schedule an appointment. Someone must be there to receive the product. Once they arrive to deliver, they will come to the end of your driveway and lower the pallet(s) of flooring to the end of the driveway. It is your responsibility to bring the product into the home. For more information, see our shipping and returns page.
On residential deliveries the freight company will be instructed to call you when the material gets to the nearest terminal to schedule your delivery appointment. They will give you a 2-3 hour window for delivery. Sometimes you can ask that they call you when they are on the way to your home, but not all companies and locations accommodate that request so it is important to be there during the entire window they schedule with you. You will have a say in when they deliver so you work that out directly with the freight company. If this is a business delivery to a dock they will usually not call unless you specify with us at the time of order they need to. They will deliver these shipments during normal business hours (8a-5p).
We start all proposals with including a residential and liftgate truck charge. If you requested and paid for a liftgate, then the truck will have a liftgate to lower the material to the ground.
We work with dozens of carriers and hundreds of terminals all over the country. Most of the time residential deliveries are made in a smaller box truck, but occasionally a semi will be making the trip. It is important you let us know at the time of your order if there are any concerns about a large truck getting to your driveway due to low lying power lines, dirt or gravel roads, long driveways, or bridges that do not allow heavy loads for examples.
No. They will not pull in your driveway and they will not bring the material into the house due to liability of damage to your driveway or home. *Some* freight companies offer inside delivery in some areas and that cost typically starts at $100 and goes up.
Visually inspect the condition and entirety of the shipment before accepting it. If there is any sign of distress or items missing make sure to notate that on the Bill of Lading and ACCEPT the delivery. Be sure to NOTATE YOURSELF ON THE BOL. DO NOT LET THE DRIVER SAY HE WILL NOTATE IT. YOU MUST MAKE SURE IT IS DONE AND TAKE A PICTURE OF THE NOTATION. Please also take pictures of the damaged areas while still on the pallet as well as any damage to the boxes.
DO NOT allow the delivery driver to leave until you have verified shipment.
Once we have the images of the damaged product, we can help you figure out if you will need replacements or if the material is usable. If the material is not usable i.e. cannot be used for start or end row pieces or if there is more than one or two boxes “damaged”, then we will wait until the end of the job to see if you need replacements. We do not want to send out replacement cartons if you are going to have extra, because 7% of what you order should be considered waste accounting for cut pieces. You will need to cut pieces anyways for your job, you may be able to use most of the boards from any damaged cartons as those cut pieces. We cannot issue credits or replacements if damage is not notated with the driver at the time of delivery and images are not sent to us.
You will get tracking information within 1 business day of your order shipping out of the warehouse.
We give tracking on any trims that we ship. Oftentimes the trims ship directly from the manufacturer and we do not always get notified when they do therefore we don’t get the tracking right away. If we do get it, we email that to you just as we do with your material.
This depends on the area you are covering. We have a vast knowledge of installation and can help you figure out what other materials besides the floor that you need. We also have all of the installation guides for every product on our site for you to look over before installing the floor. Standard trims are T-molding, Reducer, Threshold, Quarter Round and Stairnoses. Sometimes with vinyl and laminate products there is a “multi-purpose molding” that can be used for any typical t-mold or reducer purpose. Other specialty moldings like square noses, staircaps, stair treads, vent mounts, and shoe molding are sometimes available. To learn more about the different standard moldings visit our blog and watch our video explaining the trims and situations to use them
At this time we only have to collect sales tax in the state of Kentucky OR if a product is going FROM California TO California, then we must collect California sales tax.
Some shipping costs are built into the square foot cost of the floor. We determine additional costs using your zip code, whether it’s going to a business or a residence, and if there is a dock height door or forklift at the delivery site.
Some items are non-returnable *custom* ordered products. Some of these brands include but are not limited to: Century, Dixie Home, Konecto, Lauzon, Metroflor Mirage, Mullican, Reward and Somerset. Other floors may be non-returnable and can only be approved at the time of a return request.
Returns can be made within 30 days minus a 25% re-stocking fee plus the cost of shipping the material back to our warehouse.
ALL TRIMS ARE NON-RETURNABLE.
We are located in Louisville, KY. Home of basketball, bourbon, and horse racing!
We always appreciate the opportunity to price match. To give us the opportunity to meet or beat competitor pricing, please send us a document or screen shot INCLUDING SHIPPING for the product. Various companies present the costs of goods and shipping different ways so we look at the overall total to determine if we can provide savings either by negotiating shipping terms in a different way (to a business, to a terminal, etc.) or we can take the documentation to our brand rep and see if we can get the product down to a cost on our side to make the deal feasible.
We cannot ship flooring material overnight. Sometimes we can ship trims more quickly if they are pre-made, but that is a case by case basis.
No, we only work with suppliers who back their products no matter how they are sold to the end user. Make sure you are working with an installer you trust because typically when warranties are not honored it will be due to installation or acclimation errors.
It depends on the amount of water. If a pipe bursts or flooding occurs, then a hardwood floor is certainly susceptible to damage. In cases of large amounts of water damage, action should be taken quickly to prevent damage to the flooring. One of the reasons engineered hardwood flooring has become popular in recent years is its resistance to water damage, making it more suitable for high trafficked areas.
It depends on the type of wood being used as well as its Janka score, which is a fancy name for “rating on the hardness scale.” Brazilian Walnut is a type of wood with a high Janka score, with an above-average score of 3680, and is popular for its durability. A good finish can make many different types of wood more durable, regardless of this rating. Engineered hardwood flooring is a great option for those who want a hardwood look with greater durability.
A solid hardwood plank is made of a singular piece of wood, while engineered hardwood is made of multiple layers of wood fused together using heat, pressure, and adhesives. Solid hardwood can be refinished a good many times, while engineered hardwood can only be refinished a handful of times, depending on the texture of the surface and the wear layer. Solid hardwood also shrinks and expands more so than engineered hardwood, which makes it harder to maintain.
A solid hardwood floor plank generally comes in one of three thicknesses: ⅝ inch (15.88 mm), ¾ inch (19 mm), or ⅞ inch (22.23 mm). The most commonly used is ¾ inch thickness. A general rule of thumb is that thicker wood lasts longer. Engineered hardwood typically comes in ⅝ inch or ⅞ inch.
Yes. The natural look of a hardwood floor increases the value of a home, as does its durability and potential for being refinished by up to 5%.
There are several factors that determine the cost of hardwood flooring. It costs on average $4-6 per square foot plus another $4-8 per square foot for installation.
Generally a hardwood floor installation process takes around a few days to a week, depending on the size of your home.
A few days to a week is the average. The main factor in determining the time taken is the size of the home.
Yes and no. There is a potential that the claws of a dog or cat will scratch up the floor, and the durability or hardness of the floor can make it easier for scratches to appear. On the other hand, messes are much easier to clean than on a carpet, as hardwood is not absorbent or easily stained. There are pros and cons for pet owners, and spending a little more for higher durability is advisable.
There are a few good options, and special considerations should be taken. Microfiber cleaning products and special floor-cleaning products such as Bona are both useful in cleaning hardwood floors. A classic broom is safe, as is a vacuum with adequate suction. Be wary of store-bought products, for many of them are actually harmful to hardwood. Pine Sol, Pledge, and Swiffer Wet Jets should generally be avoided.
It is essentially the same thing as engineered hardwood. It’s called “floating” because of the many layers to it that separate it from the grade level. The dense, layered structure makes the floor very durable, and also resistant to moisture and humidity.
Engineered hardwood flooring is a fantastic option, due to the durability and strong resistance to spills. For less money, you could spring for high-pressured laminate flooring. It looks the same, and is a safe option as well, since it can withstand heavy foot traffic. Vinyl flooring is a fantastic option for those who want a stylish floor without breaking the bank.
Probably not. A bathroom is typically the most humid area in a household. Moisture is bad for hardwood, and wears it down, so it is not a good fit for a bathroom. However, engineered hardwood flooring could work well in a spacious, well-ventilated bathroom with below-average foot traffic, though it is not a fantastic choice, admittedly.
For those on a budget, vinyl flooring is the way to go. There is a high variety of styles and colors to choose from, giving the buyer a good deal of freedom in designing their home.
In general, hardwood flooring is the most expensive. This is because it is high quality, looks nice, and is quite durable and long-lasting. If you are really looking for an investment, check out Luxtouch tiles, which are made of black marble and are inlaid with diamonds–and cost $1,000,000 per square foot for installation!
Yes, if it is laminate flooring or engineered hardwood. The floor will be glued or floated, depending on the installer. It is important that the tiles be in decent condition for the installation. As nice as it would be to simply put flooring over loose, cracked, or very worn ceramic, it will make it destined to fail.
In general, this can be a gamble. In most cases, it is recommended that carpet be removed before installing flooring. Laminate flooring will install well on carpet that is less than ¼ inch high, flat and in good condition. Think of the carpeting that you see in hotels, airports, and bus aisleways–these are the types of carpet fit for installing over. Anything too soft, or high, is better off being removed.
Typically, laminate flooring ranges from 5/16 to ⅜ inch thickness.
